Essentially Reformed

I am really glad that I am reformed! In the midst of great trials, my reformed theology serves me so well. How?

(1.) my reformed theology means that it’s not up to me. When I face the trial of a loved one, when I question the salvation of a parent – I am reminded that it’s not up to me. It is not dependent on my skills, my wisdom or my powers of persuasion. I am not anxious because success is not on my shoulders. I am not anxious because it is about the Holy Spirit. I am not anxious because it is all about grace.

(2.) my reformed theology says that I am depending on his wisdom. The One who created each atom and every galaxy is in control. I am resting in the wisdom of the one who invented radar, nuclear power and gravity (we only discovered them). I am resting in power of the One who regenerates the waves and keeps the Stars burning. I rest in the love of the One who made thousands of varieties of flowers, but hung his Son on an old rugged cross.

(3.) my reformed theology reminds me that all these things will be redeemed. He can make all things work for good. He redeemed Joseph’s imprisonment, he redeemed Paul’s near fatal shipwreck – and he redeemed me.

(4.) my reformed theology says that there is a purpose for every trial. Each trial is there for his glory and for my good.

I don’t want to settle for less than God’s best. I don’t want settle for my own wisdom. And I won’t quit in mid-trial. I will maintain an eternal perspective. I will wait to have my questions answered when I see Him face to face.
